terabyte (TB)
The term terabyte (TB) is generally used to define the storage capacity ofmass storage devices, such as hard disk arrays, jukeboxes, tape drives, tape libraries, and the holographic-based HVD disc.
Tera is a prefix based on the decimal system: `10^12`, or 1 trillion.
Since the byte refers to the exponentiation of the dual system, one trillion bytes correctly corresponds to a storage capacity of `2^40` bytes. This size is called tebibyte (TiB) in the NISTsystem of units because the absolute value is 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, which is different from the absolute value of the terabyte, which is 1,000,000,000 bytes. The terabyte corresponds to 1,024 gigabytes( GB).
