Since the content of a website can consist of multimedia data types such as texts, images, photos, audios and videos, which are structured, semi-structured or unstructured, web content mining has to filter, categorize and interpret the information on the web pages. Web content mining therefore goes far beyond ordinary search engine results and is very useful for competitive research or scientific work, for example.

In addition to web content mining, there is also web usage mining, which is used to investigate the usage behavior of websites.
