total radiated power (antenna) (TRP)

Total Radiated Power (TRP) is an antenna characteristic value that indicates the actual radiation of RF power.

The TRP value is measured with the transmitter connected and is derived from the Total Received Power. Total Radiated Power is a field-based measurement that includes the transmitter, antenna cable, RF connectors, impedances, and antenna.

The TRP measurement takes the entire antenna system into account. Mobile network operators therefore quote the TRP value and not the antenna gain, since the TRP value takes into account both the antenna and the radio emission.

Another characteristic value is the Total Isotropic Sensitivity( TIS), which measures the total sensitivity of a radio link - antenna and receiver - with isotropic radiation.
