stranding factor
When stranding symmetrical cables, individual wires or wire pairs are twisted against each other. They are wound helically around the stranding axis.
Lay length or pitch refers to the rise height during the stranding of symmetrical cable pairs. For example, a lay length of 70 means that after 70 mm the wires have made a helical stranding of 360 degrees around the stranding axis.
There are data cables with different lay lengths. This is a design measure to improve the near-end cross-talk attenuation( NEXT). For this purpose, the different lay lengths are implemented in prime factors (71, 73, 79, 81, 83, 89, 97).
