- In communications technology, equalizers are filters for reducing crosstalk on data lines. A distinction is made between three types of equalization: for fixed lines, manual equalization is used; for low transmission speeds of up to 2,400 bit/s via telephone cables, compromise equalizers are used that are adapted to an average connection line; and for higher transmission speeds on connection-oriented lines, adaptive equalization is used that automatically adjusts to the conditions of the line.
- In audio technology, the equalizer corresponds to the equalizer and is used to raise or lower the amplitude of certain frequency ranges. Typically, filter techniques for tone control such as shelving filters or peak filters are used in equalizers.
