private land mobile radio (mobile com) (PLMR)

Private Land Mobile Radio (PLMR) are non-public ground-based mobile radio services. They are reserved for certain organizations, government institutions and security services. Thus, the police and military, firefighters, security and emergency services, known as BOS radio, aeronautical radio and maritime radio. The rules for the use and operation of these non-public services are set by the Federal Communications Commission( FCC).

Certain frequency bands are reserved for these services. For example, the 20 MHz to 50 MHz HF band, the 150 MHz to 174 MHz, 220 MHz to 222 MHz, 450 MHz to 512 MHz, 806 MHz to 824 MHz, 851 MHz to 869 MHz, 896 MHz to 901 MHz and 935 MHz to 940 MHz VHF and UHF bands.

The PLMR services are grouped into several groups for public safety, industrial applications and land-based radio services. Each user group is assigned its own frequency ranges.

In addition, several PLMR services are defined. For example, a paging service called Private Carrier Paging( PCP), the Location and Monitoring Service( LMS), and telemetry for medical data within Specialized Mobile Radio( SMR).
