postnet code
The Postnet code is one of many bar codes. It is used for postal codes, but also for international zip codes.
The Postnet barcode consists of six data fields, five for a five- digit postal code, the sixth for the checksum. The Postnet code is delimited by two frame bars, left and right. In the Postnet code, all strokes have the same thickness and spacing, but they differ in length. The first five data fields contain the individual digits of the postal code, the sixth data field is for the checksum. This results from the five preceding digits, supplemented by another digit to make the checksum divisible by ten. Each individual data field has five dashes, which have the values 0, 1, 2, 4 and 7 from the left.
