piezoelectric motor
Piezo motors are high-precision linear motors that operate without moving parts, gears or mechanical power transmission. They are miniature components of microsystems technology( MST) that perform movements in the micrometer and nanometer range.
Due to the limited number of components, piezo motors can be manufactured with much smaller dimensions compared to conventional motors, which ultimately affects the size of the finished device, whether a smartphone or digital camera. In addition, the efficiency of conventional motors drops rapidly if they fall below certain sizes.
Piezo motors can be made from one part and consist of several piezos in series that expand, clamp and contract, causing forward motion. Another principle works with small grippers that bend and shorten, thus triggering the movement.
Piezo motors are used in smartphones and digital cameras for lens control.
