With DiplayPort, there are two modes of operation for connecting monitors: one is Single Stream Transport Mode( SST), the second is Multi Stream Transport Mode (MST). While in SST mode only one monitor can be connected to the interface, in MST mode several monitors can be connected to the interface. In this case, the connection is made either in daisy-chaining or via a hub that handles the signal distribution. The number of connected monitors is limited by the data transfer rate.
