optoclip
In addition to the fixed connections of optical fibers, which are characterized by the splicing techniques, and the FO connectors, there is also a connection technique for fast, trouble-free assembly. This technology is intended for use in the field.
The Optoclip from Huber und Suhner is a plug- socket combination that requires no adhesive. According to the manufacturer, the Optoclip should have the quality characteristics of splicing. The Optoclip is essentially based on a unique centering technique in which the optical fibers are adjusted to each other with the lowest tolerance.
During the fabrication of the Optoclip, the fibers are broken, ground and polished using a special tool. The accuracy is said to exceed that of FOC connectors. This is also reflected in the insertion loss values, which are typically less than 0.1 dB for single- mode fibers and are said to be 0.1 dB for multimode fibers. Return loss is at least 55 dB and typically 65 dB.
