offline reader

Offline Reader is the generic term for reading programs on the Internet or in online services.

With an offline reader, messages can be collected from newsgroups, stored on the hard disk and edited offline without a connection to the network during reading and writing. The advantage of offline readers is that no connection costs are incurred during the editing time.

Offline readers can be independent programs or implemented as an additional function of other programs. Offline readers automatically transfer incoming e-mails or newsgroup articles as soon as a connection to the mailbox or mail server is established.
