network management layer (NML)

The Network ManagementLayer (NML) is a logical layer of Fault, Configuration, Account, Performance, and Security (FCAPS) in Telecommunications Control Networks

(TMN) where network management occurs. The NML layer provides a holistic view of the network and between the various devices. Traffic engineering, control of available service capacities, diversities, and possible network congestion is performed at this layer. In addition, reports and traffic analysis are generated. The Network Management Layer gets its data from the underlying Element Management Layer (EML).
