modifiable off-the-shelf (COTS) (MOTS)
In product classification, a distinction is made between commercial off-the-shelf( COTS) products and modified or modifiable off-the-shelf (MOTS) products.
MOTS products are typically standard software whose source code can be modified. The product modification can be done by the customer, the manufacturer or a service partner and takes into account customer-specific requirements. MOTS software is thus adapted to the customer's needs.
If the MOTS products are developed by an independent service center, then the user often cannot access the developments.
