mean time to data loss (MTDL)

Mean Time to Data Loss (MTDL) is the time period in which the user can use a fault-tolerant data storage system before experience shows that an error occurs that leads to data loss. With Mean Time to Data Availability, such an error does not necessarily lead to data loss. In the case of intelligent storage controllers, the data can be accessed again once the error has been eliminated.
