mean time to data loss (MTDL)

Mean Time to DataLoss (MTDL) is the amount of time that the user can use a fault-tolerant data storage system before an error occurs that leads to data loss, based on experience. In Mean Time to Data Availability, such an error does not necessarily lead to data loss. In the case of intelligent storage controllers, the data can be accessed again once the error has been eliminated.
