A leading fiber is a special fiber that is connected in front of the measurement path in optical time domain reflectometry( OTDR). The advantage of this method is that the first FOC plug of the FOC link can already be measured unambiguously without being influenced by the front plug of the OTDR device. The leading fiber is about 100 m long.

Just as there is a leading fiber, there is also a trailing fiber, which is connected downstream of the measuring section and thus enables unambiguous measurements at the end of the fiber.
