infrastructure as code (IaC)

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is a technique where the IT infrastructure is managed automatically by code instead of manually. The IaC technique uses machine-readable codes and scripts according to which the IT infrastructure is programmed.

IaC technology makes the IT infrastructure flexible and scalable, and it can be configured to best meet application requirements. Indata centers, the IT infrastructure with servers and virtual machines can thus be carried out automatically according to a predefined configuration. The aim is to automate frequently occurring static settings and adapt the IT infrastructure to the application.

The IaC concept is characterized by a high degree of flexibility, where a few or several hundred servers and storage can be integrated into the infrastructure. Infrastructure as Code reduces infrastructure errors, eliminates the cost of manual configurations, and infrastructure changes can be implemented relatively quickly.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) conceptually supports Infrastructure as a Service( IaaS), but does not correspond to this service.
