fibre channel generic services (FC-GS)

Fibre Channel Generic Services(FC- GS) is an ANSI standard in which various Fibre Channel services are specified. For example, the name server, the management server, the time server and others.

The development of these Generic Services was initially directed towards the Fibre Channel environment and its administration and management and included, among other things, a directory service / DS), a transport service and time-related services. In the following generation, further services and extensions were specified for FC management. This standard is called FC-GS-2 and was published in 1998.

Many more additions and services followed, numbered consecutively as FC-GS-3, FC-GS-4 and FC-GS-5, which was published in 2003.
