Fast Data Exchange (FDX) is an older communication protocol that dates back to the 1990s and was developed for maritime applications.

Fast Data Exchange is an Ethernet-basedinterface that does not have an elaborate protocol stack. It uses the UDP protocol as transportprotocol. The FDX interface is currently used in automotive technology, where it is characterized by fast access to the CAN bus.
