diagnostic acceptability measure (speech quality) (DAM)

Diagnostic Acceptability Measure (DAM) is a measurement method developed in the 1970s for evaluating speech intelligibility in communication systems.

The DAM procedure includes the evaluation of speech quality in several independent diagnostic assessment levels and the perceptual quality affected by background noise. Estimation of intelligibility, pleasantness, and acceptability is performed by direct assessment and multiple nonlinear predictions of the rating levels. Extremely reliable results are obtained by exact adjustment of the rating listeners.
