degaussing

  1. In screens with cathode ray tubes, the Degaussian function is a demagnetization of the aperture or slit mask. This is electrically charged during operation by the continuously existing electron beam, which causes color shifts in the edge area of the display surface. When the Degauss function is triggered, a strong alternating magnetic field demagnetizes the shadow or slit mask.
  2. In the case of magnetic storage media, demagnetization is used to erase all data. By applying an opposing magnetic field, the magnetic flux is reduced to zero and all existing data is erased.
