controlled access unit (CAU)

A Controlled Access Unit (CAU) is an intelligent concentrator in Token Ring. A CAU can provide connections for up to 80 workstations when using pluggable lobe attachment modules. It determines if a node is in use or a monitor is active and sends the data to the LAN Manager program. In addition, the CAU unit can connect or disconnect individual nodes.
