(cpl) is used to calculate the makeup. This specification applies to the print display as well as the screen display. The character per line specification tells you how many characters fit into a single line. The number is mainly dependent on the font size and the line length, but is also influenced by the font, since different fonts have different run widths for the same font size. There are fonts with proportional spacing, the so-called proportionally-spaced fonts, in which all characters have different widths, and there are fonts with uniform spacing, in which each character has the same width.
