word processing
Text processing comprises text-oriented programs, editors and systems with which texts can be created, edited, structured, designed and output in dialog with the computer.
Text creation can be done by input from the keyboard, as well as by transferring a text file from a memory or by scanning. Text editing includes editing and correcting writing as well as text preparation. This includes all possibilities of text manipulation such as cutting, copying and pasting by means of an editor, the use of design elements for page layout with all typographic features such as determining the page format, the choice of font and font size, font alignment, highlighting, etc.
Screen masks for letters and forms, in conjunction with address management, facilitate the creation and editing of texts.
The text processing includes, in addition to the aids for text preparation and presentation, spelling aids that detect typos, misspellings and incorrect spellings, but also grammatical aids that draw attention to incorrect grammar, the inclusion of graphic objects, of tables and the creation of documents.
The text output can be printed on paper or on another medium, it can be prepared for individual and mass correspondence or it can be stored on storage media. Well-known word processing programs are MS-Word from Microsoft, OpenOffice and StarOffice.
