cabinet power distribution unit (CDU)

Energy conservation in data centers is about controlling the energy consumption of individual racks and reducing it when the workload is lower. One technology used for this is the Cabinet Power Distribution Unit (CDU).

A CDU unit is a smart power strip that measures the power consumption of individual components and detects over- or undervoltages. Depending on the concept, the measured consumption and voltage values can be transmitted via the standardized PTMI interface, Power Thermal Management Interface (PTMI), to the data center's power management system, Enterprise Power and Thermal Management( EPTM).

On the other hand, the Cabinet Power Distribution Unit could be a stand-alone node and transmit the measured values to the consumption management via TCP/ IP.
