A breakpoint is an interruption point in a program, programmed as a conditional stop.

This breakpoint is used exclusively for debugging programs, since the program can be stopped at the breakpoint and the individual program states can bechecked for errors.

In web design, a breakpoint is a marking point at which the layout changes. Breakpoints are marked pixel by pixel and are used for page breaks when web pages are reduced or enlarged. Thus, when a web page is reduced in size or when smaller screens are used, certain page elements are arranged differently in columns; for example, below the main text.
