basic exchange radio telecommunications service (BERTS)

Basic Exchande Radio Telecommunications Service (BERTS) is a 1980s development for wireless connectivity to local loops used in the United States.

The BERTS process is used for telephone service in rural areas, as well as to rapidly increase the capacity of telephone lines.

BERTS, also referred to as Basic Exchange Radio (BEXR), uses Time Division Multiplex Access( TDMA) at multiple FDMA channels in the frequency ranges from 150 MHz to 450 MHz and at 800 MHz. The voice channels operate with Adaptive Delta Pulse CodeModulation( ADPCM) at 16 kbit/s.
