backward error correction (BEC)

Backward Error Correction (BEC) is an error reduction method that works with flow control.

Backward Error Correction is based on the fact that data blocks received with errors, which are recognized as such but cannot be corrected, are requested again by the transmitter. Automatic Repeat Request ( ARQ) is one of these error reduction techniques.

BEC methods have the advantage that less data is transmitted, which means that a higher transmission bandwidth is available and less computing power is required on the receiver side for error correction.
