backup domain controller (BDC)

A backup domain controller (BDC) is a machine in a Windows NTdomain that contains copies of directory listings. These lists contain all the information that is tangential to security and the node computers.

Backup Domain Controllers (BDC) can replace the primary management component, the Primary Domain Controller( PDC) in case of failure and provide load balancing in case of overload.
