Manufacturer Initiative Software (Automotive)

The Manufacturer Initiative Software (HIS) is an association of the five German car manufacturers Audi, BMW, Daimler-Chrysler, Porsche and Volkswagen with the aim of standardizing the requirements for components and processes on vehicle electronics. This can significantly reduce the workload for suppliers and test facilities.

One of the most important aspects of the manufacturer initiative software is the mastering of software by bundling the common activities regarding standard software, software tests, software tools and the programming of control units.

In addition to these activities, other standardization activities include the requirements interchange format ( ReqIF) standardized by the Object Management Group ( OMG), as well as AUTOSAR and Automotive-Spice. Automotive-Spice is used to make test results comparable and was developed from ISO standard 15504 from 2004.
