LDAP data interchange format (NDS) (LDIF)

LDAP Data Interchange Format (LDIF) is an LDAP interchange format that can be used to make entries, changes, updates, renames, or deletions to a Directory Information Base( DIB).

The LDIF format carries directory contents as individual records, with each record corresponding to an entry.

LDIF is a standard format for text files in which LDAP configuration information and directory contents are recorded. It was developed in the 1990s and has been updated several times. The first version is described in RFC 2849. An extension specified by the Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF) is described in RFC 4525.
