ITU J.601

ITU Recommendation J.601, entitled "Transport of Large Screen Digital Imagery( LSDI)", defines the resolutions of high- resolution and extremely high-resolution display technologies and the transport of the data volumes required for them.

J.601 is concerned with 3,840 x 2,160 and 7,680 x 4,320 pixel displays, 4K standard and 8K standard, as implemented in Ultra- HD( UHD) and Ultra- HDTV.

To this end, J.601 covers compression schemes, multiplexing and framing, and transmission protocols over packet-switched networks. J.601 gives an overview of the different resolutions, color subsampling, the resulting data rate, the type of encoding and the color resolution.
