ISO/IEC 24702
Industrial Ethernet relies on international cabling standards such as ISO/IEC11801 for its cabling. Since, in addition to the cabling, the network design, the topology and the transmission technology are quite decisive for the services and applications, the International Standards Organization (ISO) and the IEC have adopted the ISO/IEC 24702 standard, which takes into account the increased requirements for the industrial environment.
In this context, the data connectors should be mentioned, which must meet corresponding protection requirements and have a certain protection class.
Since the 24702 standard knows ten different plugs and the standard plug of 11801 is the RJ45, the decision was made to use an industrial-grade push-pull RJ45 plug with IP67 protection. This version is called variant 4 in the standard. For EtherNet/ IP, variant 1, the RJ45 plug with bayonet lock, is used, and for Interbus, variant 6, an RJ45 push-pull plug with shackle locking, is used.
