EIA class

Ceramic capacitors and multilayer ceramic capacitors(MLCC) are characterized according to a class system in their temperature behavior and divided into application classes. This classification was specified by the Electronics Industry Association( EIA) as EIA classes. The EIA classes are known in Germany as DIN classes, even though both class divisions have different class designations.

There are three EIA classes: EIA Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3.

Class 1 capacitors are characterized by better temperature properties than class 2 capacitors. This is causally related to the materials from which the multilayer capacitors are manufactured and from which their contacts are made.
