ATRAC3plus

ATRAC3plus is another variant of Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding(ATRAC). The method, which works with subband coding and Modified Discrete Cosine Transformation( MDCT), uses four times larger transformation units than ATRAC3.

With ATRAC3plus, signals are divided into 16 subbands before the MDCT transformation.

ATRAC3plusaudio codecs operate at data rates of 48 kbit/s, 64 kbit/s and 256 kbit/s and are used in music players, MemoryStick players and ATRAC CD players.

In terms of sound quality, ATRAC3plus is inferior to Ogg Vorbis, aacPlus and AAC compression. However, the sound at a bit rate of 64 kbit/s is said to be comparable to that of MP3 at 128 kbit/s.
