web distributed authoring and versioning (WebDAV)
Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) is a communication protocol between content management systems( CMS) and clients.
WebDAV is a type of network file system for the Internet. With WebDAV, users and administrators can maintain content on web servers. It can also be used as an access protocol for CMS systems.
WebDAV supports metadata management, access control, name and version management, among others. Since WebDAV is based on HTTP, it can work with HTML, Graphics Interchange Format( GIF) or JPEG. WebDAV is standardized and described under RFC 2518 and RFC 3253.
