call management server (CMS)

The Call Management Server (CMS) is one of several components for packet-switched voice communications in cable distribution networks and broadband cable networks. The Call Management Server is located in the IP backbone and usually includes a Gate Controller ( GC). The tasks of the CMS system include negotiating the quality of service with the Media Terminal Adapter ( MTA) with which the voice communication is to be supported.
