Voice over Net (VoN) has a clear distinction from VoIP. VoN refers to packet-switched voice transmission via the Internet, and packet-switched network protocols other than the IP protocol can be used for this purpose.

Voice over Net is a technically obsolete approach that has been overtaken by the development of Internet telephony and Voice over IP (VoIP).
