unidirectional path switching ring (UPSR)

A UnidirectionalPath Switching Ring (UPSR) is a redundant fiber optic configuration in Synchronous Optical Networks ( SONET). In this configuration, the transmission signal is transmitted in one direction on each of the two optical fibers. If a fault occurs in the primary ring, the backup ring takes over its function.
