temporary mobile station (mobile communications) (TMS)

To protect subscriber identity, GSM systems use a time-varying subscriber identifier, Temporary Mobile Subscriber (TMS).

The TMS procedure prevents an existing communications link from being assigned to a specific mobile subscriber by interception of the radio interface. The temporary subscriber identifier( TMSI) is temporarily assigned by the location VLR and transmitted to the mobile station in encrypted form.
