superchannel

A superchannel is an optical transmission link with an extremely high data rate. Such superchannels will soon be used in optical core networks and replace conventional Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing( DWDM).

Alcatel-Lucent has developed a superchannel with a data rate of 1.2 Tbit/s. This superchannel operates with 120 Gbit/s channels transmitted over an optical fiber using bandwidth-efficient Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing( OFDM).
