simple gateway monitoring protocol (SNMP) (SGMP)

The Simple GatewayMonitoring Protocol (SGMP) is a simplified predecessor protocol of the Simple Network Management Protocol( SNMP).

The SGMP protocol enabled the rapid development of management tools and provided prototypes as early as 1988. Because of its simplicity and flexibility, the SGMP protocol was used for the first proposals of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

The Simple Gateway Monitoring Protocol (SGMP) was specified by the Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF) and is described in RFC 1028.
