robustness validation (automotive) (RV)

Robustness Validation (RV) is a procedure used to confirm the robustness of electronic components, devices and systems.

The procedure, which was developed for automotive technology, uses so-called mission profiles in which the exact stress criteria are defined. These can be the temperature or voltage range in which the components are used. If the specified requirement profile deviates too much from the component properties, then another component must be selected.

Robustness Validation is intended to help minimize the risks posed by electronic components and assemblies. It is being promoted worldwide by automotive industry associations, such as the Society of Automotive Engineers( SAE). In Germany, the topic of robustness validation is dealt with by the ZVEI.
