rate decrease factor (ATM) (RDF)

The Rate Decrease Factor (RDF) determines the reduction of the data rate when congestion is present in an ATM network.

The Rate Decrease Factor is an ABR service parameter that is independent of the data rate and the Round Trip Time( RTT). Only switches that set the Explicit Forward Congestion Indication( EFCI) or the Congestion Indicator( CI) bit must reduce the Rate Decrease Factor when the Peak Cell Rate( PCR) increases.
