range-extended electric vehicle (REEV)

A Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) is an electric vehicle with an extended range. The REEV concept works with a small combustion engine that drives a generator rather than the wheels, which in turn generates electricity to charge the batteries. The batteries are charged while the vehicle is in motion, extending the range by up to 500 km. The combustion engine is much smaller and lighter than that of hybrid electric vehicles(HEVs).
