passive keyless go (automotive) (PKG)

Passive Keyless Go (PKG) is an electronic starting technology that allows motor vehicles to be started with a start button.

To be able to start a motor vehicle with a start button, it must be ensured that the car key is in the car. The PKG method measures the Received Signal Strength( RSS) and determines whether the radio-controlled car key is inside - in a jacket pocket, for example - or outside the motor vehicle. When the start button is pressed, an authentication procedure is started tocheck the key ID. This procedure takes a few milliseconds. Only then is the engine started. If the car key is outside the vehicle, no start is possible.

Passive keyless go (PKG) is often used together with passive keyless entry (PKE).
