optical payload virtual container (OPVC)

In an optical transport network ( OTN), there are various services for the end customer. These include Enterprise System Connection ( ESCON), Synchronous Optical Network ( SONET), Gigabit Ethernet or Fibre Channel. The Optical PayloadVirtual Container (OPVC) ensures that the service is represented in a uniform format. The OPVC is the only level that needs to be changed if a new service type is to be supported.
