national measurement institute (NMI)

The National Measurement Institutes (NMI) are national bodies that have sovereignty over units of measurement and official time. They implement the system of units nationally. In Germany, it is the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig which, among other things, provides calibration services and generates the time reference with an atomic frequency standard.
