mobile identification number (MIN)

The Mobile Identification Number (MIN) corresponds to the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) in the GSM standard

. The MIN number is a 34-bit identifier generated from the telephone number. It is part of the Electronic Serial Number

(ESN), which is the call number for non-GSM cellularphones.

In 1st generation (1G) analog cellular networks, the Mobile Identification Number is used for routing the call. In most 2nd generation (2G) networks, the cellular system uses a temporarily assigned number for routing.
