The term log management is used synonymously with security information management( SIM).

Log management involves the collection, transmission, storage and evaluation of log files from network components and applications. Log management events and log files are collected by communication systems, processed in real time, and reports are generated from them.

A more advanced concept of log management is that of the Event Log Manager (ELM), which records all activities in an IT infrastructure.
