Inmarsat is an international maritime radio satellite organization in which 80 countries around the world are currently members. German interests are represented by Deutsche Telekom.
In 1982, Inmarsat put a mobile satellite radio system into operation. In the early years, this Inmarsat system was limited exclusively to the maritime area of the maritime radio service. In the meantime, the activities have been extended to the land area and to the aeronautical area.
The Inmarsat services are offered in Germany by DeTeMobil, a wholly owned Telekom subsidiary.
